Tomball splits cleanly for our work. There is the old town core, with houses that go back generations and doors to match, and there is everything built in the last twenty years out on the newer subdivisions and acreage lots.
On the older homes the door is often solid and has been painted at some point. Those are worth stripping: the timber underneath is usually better than anything sold at a builders’ merchant today, and it is what makes an older Tomball house look its age in a good way.
Out on the acreage properties the problem is exposure. A house on open land with no neighbouring trees takes wind-driven rain and full sun from every direction, and the door has nothing sheltering it. Those need the heavier build we would use on an exposed Katy entry.
