Door Refinishing in The Woodlands
The Woodlands is the one area where we change our approach, and the reason is the trees. All that canopy means a front door gets far less direct UV than the same door in Katy — which sounds like good news, and partly is.
The trade-off is moisture. A shaded, north-facing entry under mature oaks stays damp for hours after rain, and damp wood grows things. We see green and black staining in the grain, mildew under the finish, and swelling that makes the door bind in its frame during the wet months.
So the fix here is not the heavy UV-blocking build you would want on an exposed door. It is a finish that seals against water penetration, with the end grain at the top and bottom of the door sealed properly — because that is where a shaded door drinks.
